Quick Dessert Making

"No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing." - Julia Child, American cooking teacher, author, television personality.

Yes, I don't consider myself a great cook but I do learn bit by bit by doing something new once in a while. This weekend was no exception as I got a bit creative with a dessert using the delicious melted chocolate I had and my Mom's inspiring creativity.

After I had melted that awesome cocoa bar with some dark chocolate pieces, I was pumped to do something else. A delicious dessert needed to be created with such a delicious ingredient!

I wanted something easy, with the fewest ingredients possible. Thanks to my Mom's creativity and handy ingredients, we decided to make something delicious: a Chocolate Mousse Pie! I must confess it was an easy dessert yet done in an unusual measurably way.

Why unusual measurably way? Simply because not all ingredients were exactly measured. They were mixed in according to taste and consistency as my Mom and I cooked it together.

Ingredients used with possible measures:

  • 1 Cup melted chocolate (if it's a bit bitter & dark chocolate, even better)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 ½ cups to 2 cups of Milk (use coconut milk to give it a yummier twist)
  • Approximately 1/2 Cup of Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • Approximately 1/2 Cup of Corn Starch (the Maizena meal, for my Latinos)
  • 2 teaspoons of Butter
  • Approximately 1/2 Cup of shredded Coconut
  • Graham Cracker Crust (bought from store)
some of the ingredients...

Mixed milk and the corn starch while heating up little by little. Then added the egg yolks and bit them with the mix. As everything is mostly blended, add the sugar and stir everything. Add the melted chocolate into the mix while still stirring and heating up the mix.

Take off from heat and add the Vanilla while stirring mixture. Add the butter while stirring and letting the mixture cool down. The butter will add like shiny look into the chocolaty mixture. Finally, add the shredded coconut into the mixture (leave less than a quarter cup for decoration). Add the hot mixture into the graham cracker crust mold. Let it set for 2 minutes and then decorate with the rest of the shredded coconut.

Put inside the fridge for it to cool off and finally settle. After 10-mins. more or less inside the fridge, sprinkle some of the leftover shredded coconut and maybe some whip cream and it's ready to try out. The end result? it was like going to Foodie Chocolate Heaven.

Doesn't this look super delicious?

It was an easy dessert with easy to find ingredients. The best things about this cooking experience? Got to learn a new melting technique, realized that sometimes great desserts can come from the simplest ingredients, and had some time to spend with my Mom - being creative and doing something she enjoys a lot and that I'm learning to enjoy bit by bit.

Did you like the recipe? Hope you do and that you tag me when you make it. By the way, how else would you have used the melted cocoa/dark chocolate? All foodie and cooking experts are more than welcome to comment on area below...
